Make Waking up Early a Little Easier

If you are anything like me you are not a morning person, but you also want to wake up early and get your day started at a reasonable time. I use to be a person that tried to get up earlier but knew I didn’t have to get up at 6am so i would snooze my alarm for two hours and then rush to get ready. A lot of people don’t understand that concept and I wish I didn’t, but I know there are some people out there that do. So, here are some tips on what I have found helpful for me.

I am sure you have done some research just like I have and it says go to sleep early and stop drinking caffeine in the afternoon. But the reality is if I am waking up before the sun then I am going to need caffeine especially later in the day. Also, I physically can not go to sleep early. I will be exhausted all day and as soon as 8pm rolls around I am wide awake and ready to take on the world. It is something I am still struggling with but hope it will get better as I keep up with schedule.

I have been using a Sunrise Alarm Clock for over a year now, and I have had to play around with it multiple times to figure out what works for me. This alarm clock has many options for color/light and sounds. The light progressively gets brighter to help you wake up more naturally and then plays the chosen sound. At one point I had it on my night stand, but I found that it was not lighting up my room the way I wanted because my pillow would shield me from the light. So, I then moved it across the room to my dresser and this also helped me get up out of my bed to turn it off and it does exactly what I needed it to do. However, at one point I was using a soft bird chirping sound to wake me up and I found myself sleeping through it. After going through a few sounds I have found one that works for me and I am forced to get out of bed and turn it off, but this doesn’t stop me from crawling back in to bed sometimes. Once you turn off the alarm the light and the sound go off so I also had to figure something else out.

This is when I found smart light bulbs, these light bulbs work with an app on my phone and I can control the color, brightness, and even schedule when I want them to go on and off. These also have a fade in function so just like my alarm clock my room will gradually get brighter to help me wake up more naturally, but I schedule this bulb to stay on for a hour after my initial wake up time. This way if I get back in to bed after turning my alarm off my room is still bright and it is harder for me to fall back asleep.

These things sound so simple and annoying, but it is what has helped me and I am sure it could help someone else. I have done so much research on how to become a morning person and wake up early and none of that seems to work for me. I am still working on becoming a morning person, but I am waking up early with the help of these two things. Play around with different things and see what works for you!
