Practice Self-Care

Self-care can look different to everyone, many people think that face masks and bubble baths are self care, but self care is whatever makes you happy and what you need in that moment. My skin is so sensitive that face masks stress me out because I just worry if I will break out or not. And my happy place is the shower, I could not tell you the last time I took a bath. With that being said I practice self care everyday.

Listen to your body.

If I am tired I will put my head down and close my eyes for a few minuets or take a nap. I may not be productive in that moment but I am taking care of my mind and body and later on I am sure I will be more productive because I have more energy. I also make sure I drink lots of water, I always carry a 40oz tumbler with me this helps me stay hydrated and now anything smaller than that is useless because it is like one sip and it’s gone. If my body tell me I need water I have some with me and I can take care of my need on the spot.

Do what brings you joy.

One thing that I know makes me happy and will help me relax after a hard day is driving around with my sunroof open and windows down listening to music. While I am driving around I will forget about everything and just be happy in that moment. I also just randomly break out in to dance everywhere I go. In the middle of the grocery store, the mall, or just a random parking lot, with music playing out loud or just in my head. A simple wiggle or movement brings me joy and often laughter because I have no rhythm and it makes no sense, but it is a form of self care because joy and happiness are important everyday.

Doing things you have to do.

I am not a super clean person and I am also lazy so about once a week I have to pick up and clean my apartment. During this time I will light a candle and listen to music, I will do laundry and the dishes that are in the sink, everything will go back to the spot it belongs. It is just like a reset for life, it smells good and looks good for a day or two and I feel so accomplished. Speaking of feeling accomplished after I take an everything shower that is self care. Personally I love the shower and would spend all day in there but I know not everyone is like that and maybe someone enjoys shaving their whole body and washing their hair but chances are that not many people like doing all of that. However, the end product when you get in to your clean sheets with your shaved legs and clean hair. That is the feeling we love and that is some good self care.
